The Election Commission has asked Bihar government not to deploy state police at polling booths in coming assembly election in the State. The Commission said only Central para-military forces will be deployed at booths during polls.
The Director General of Police P.K. Thakur said the state police will be deployed only in patrolling and other law and order related issues. For the first time Bihar police has been debarred from performing their duty at polling booths.
The Election Commission has instructed the state machinery to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas of the State. 47 constituencies spread in 29 districts are Naxal affected areas.
Search operation has been launched in these areas. A strict vigil is being maintained along Indo-Nepal border in Bihar. Boats and helicopters will be used for patrolling in sensitive areas.
