Bangladesh has recorded its highest single-day death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms, with 17 fatalities reported in 24 hours till 8am Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The previous highest single-day toll was 12. With the latest deaths, the total number of fatalities from measles and measles-like symptoms since March 15 has risen to 311.
DGHS said two confirmed measles deaths were reported during the 24-hour period, taking the total confirmed death toll to 52. These deaths were reported from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
Another 15 suspected measles deaths were recorded in the same period, raising total suspected deaths to 259. Of the latest suspected deaths, 11 were reported from Dhaka division and four from Chattogram division.
During the same 24 hours, 154 new confirmed cases were recorded, taking the total confirmed cases to 5,467. DGHS also reported 1,302 new suspected cases, raising the total suspected cases to 41,793.
