In a major display of the development work of the government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 100 bridges across 25 districts in Bangladesh on Monday.
Inaugurating the bridges virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban, Prime Minister Hasina called the event ‘historic’. She said it would quicken the country’s development.
The bridges have been built at a combined cost of over Taka 879 crores, reported the official news agency BSS.
Prime Minister Hasina said that the bridges will also help law-enforcement agencies to take prompt measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. The bridges would also make it easier to help people during natural calamities and also help in transportation and marketing of goods.
Out of the 100 bridges inaugurated on Monday, 46 are in Chattogram division, 17 in Sylhet division, 14 in Barisal division, seven each in Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, Six in Mymensingh division, and three in Rangpur division.
Sheikh Hasina said that the government is developing road communication so that the country can be connected to the Trans-Asian Highway.
