Measles-related deaths in Bangladesh have climbed to 486, with fresh infections and fatalities reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the latest reporting period, 1,337 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms were detected across the country. During the same time, 11 deaths were recorded, two confirmed as measles and nine involving patients with measles-like symptoms, the DGHS said in its daily bulletin issued Tuesday.
Data from the health authority shows that over the past two months, 475 children have died due to measles and related complications. Of these, 77 deaths were laboratory-confirmed measles cases, while 398 involved children who exhibited measles-like symptoms.
On Tuesday, the DGHS also directed all government health institutions to follow new measures to contain the outbreak.
