A leader of the BNP’s volunteer wing, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area on Wednesday night, police said. The victim, Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot around 8.30–8.40 pm near the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead

Another man, Abu Sufian, general secretary of the Karwan Bazar Van Owners’ Association, was injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Fazlul Karim said several rounds were fired. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and investigating the motive. Following the killing, BNP supporters blocked the SAARC Fountain intersection, disrupting traffic before police and army personnel cleared the road.

BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel demanded the arrest of the killers within 24 hours. “If the interim government fails, it will show a lack of sincerity,” he said. “Sweet words won’t solve the problem.”

He added that under acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the party’s movement for a “people’s government” would not be stopped by killings. Musabbir’s janaza was held in Nayapaltan, attended by senior BNP leaders and activists.
