Ministry of Civil Aviation has come out with a draft regulations on civil use of Unmanned Aircraft System or Drones. Addressing Media in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju said, the draft policy has been prepared in consultation with all stakeholders.

He said, the policy will help encourage use of drones for various purposes including commercial and humanitarian. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said, it is a very balanced draft policy and will promote drone industry.

He said, the draft policy has been put on the website for public comments and after that the the policy on use of drones will be finalised. Mr Sinha said, the new policy is expected to be implemented form 1st of next year.

As per the draft policy, there will be five category of drones ranging from 250 gram to 150 kilogram and more than it. All other commercial categories of drones will be registered by DGCA except for nano category and those operated by government security agencies. All drones are proposed to be operated only and below 200 feet and they will not be allowed to fly within an area of five kilometer from airport.
