The protest against alleged examination paper leaks intensified on Saturday as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) released a scathing open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his silence even as educationist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike entered its seventh day at Jantar Mantar.

In the letter, the protesters accused the Centre of ignoring growing public anger over repeated paper leaks, examination cancellations and the plight of affected students.

They renewed their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that the government had failed to restore credibility to the country’s examination system.

The protest group also alleged that BJP leaders had branded demonstrators as “terrorists” instead of engaging in dialogue. It further claimed that Delhi Police personnel assaulted protesters and threw books on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh into the mud during a recent action at the protest site, demanding action against the officers concerned.

The letter also claimed that student suicides linked to examination irregularities had increased from 11 before the protest began on June 20 to 29 now, although these figures could not be independently verified.

Calling upon the Prime Minister to “break his silence”, the protesters said the movement was about restoring accountability and safeguarding the future of India’s youth. The Centre had not responded to the letter till the time of filing this report.
