The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested Anmol Bishnoi, the brother and close aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, after he was extradited from the United States to India.
Anmol, who was wanted in several terror-linked criminal cases, carried a reward of ₹10 lakh on his arrest. He is accused of involvement in multiple high-profile attacks, including the 12 October 2024 firing targeting NCP leader Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai, and the May 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. His name had also surfaced in the Salman Khan house-firing case.
Fled to the U.S. on Fake Passport
In 2022, Anmol fled to the United States using a forged passport under the name Bhanu. He was later detained by U.S. authorities for entering the country illegally. His application for asylum was rejected, following which he was deported to India. Upon landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, he was taken into custody by the NIA.
19th Arrest in Terror-Gangster Syndicate Case
According to the NIA, Anmol is the 19th accused to be arrested in the terror syndicate led by his brother Lawrence Bishnoi. The agency states that during 2020–2023, Anmol actively assisted Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in planning and executing terror activities across India. The NIA had filed a chargesheet against him in March 2023.
Terror Operations from Abroad
Investigations reveal that Anmol continued operating the Bishnoi network from the U.S., directing extortion, sheltering shooters, and providing logistical support to gang members on the ground in India. He is also accused of orchestrating extortion rackets in India using foreign-based associates.
Red Corner Notice & Multiple Cases
A Red Corner Notice was issued against him on 6 December 2022 after U.S. immigration authorities discovered that a supporting company reference letter attached to his travel documents was forged.
Anmol faces 31 criminal cases, including 22 in Rajasthan, and nine arrest warrants are pending against him.
Crackdown on Gangster-Terror Nexus
The NIA continues to probe the larger terror-gangster conspiracy involving the Bishnoi network. The agency says its investigation aims to dismantle the syndicate’s operational infrastructure, including its weapons supply chains and funding networks.
