
Aligarh, February 27: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has revived its distinguished hockey legacy by reaching the final of the All India Inter University Hockey Tournament after 19 years. In a gripping semi-final at Gurukul Kangri University, AMU secured a decisive 3-1 victory over Kashi Vidyapeeth University, Varanasi. Key goals by Dhananjay, Piyush, and Prashant played a pivotal role in this achievement. With a rich history of producing Olympians, AMU’s hockey tradition remains strong as the university moves closer to reclaiming its prominence in university hockey.
AMU will now face North Zone Inter University runner-up Gurukul Kangri University in the final on February 28, setting the stage for an electrifying contest.
AMU Registrar Mohammad Imran (IPS) and Secretary of the Games Committee, Professor Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, congratulated the team on this remarkable achievement, expressing their pride and optimism for a championship victory. “The final promises to be an exhilarating contest, with the AMU fraternity eagerly anticipating another moment of triumph,” said Registrar.
The news of AMU’s remarkable achievement sparked celebrations within the University Games Committee. Hockey Club President Professor Ghulam Sarwar Hashmi and Sports Deputy Director Arshad Mahmood, lauded the players for their dedication and perseverance.
Among those who extended their best wishes to the team were Gymkhana Club President of the Games Committee, Dr. Jameel Ahmed, along with Dr. Farooq Ahmed Dar, Prof. Zamirullah, Sohail Farooqui, Ali Akbar, Sardar Hussain, Khusro Maruf, Dr. Faisal Sherwani, and Mazharul Qamar.
