The Aligarh Muslim University continued its historic tradition of hosting biannual flower shows with the grand inauguration of the Annual Flower Show-2025 by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon at Gulistan-e-Syed.

This much-anticipated event, which has been held twice a year in February and October, is unique to AMU, as no other institution in the country boasts such a long-standing legacy of floral exhibitions. The tradition, dating back decades, is a hallmark of AMU’s commitment to horticulture, aesthetics, and environmental awareness.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Naima Khatoon remarked, “AMU’s flower shows are not just a celebration of nature’s beauty, but also a testament to the university’s dedication to preserving its cultural and environmental heritage. These events symbolize harmony, discipline, and a collective effort toward sustainability.”

Prof. Vibha Sharma, Member Incharge, Public Relations Office, emphasized the historical importance of the event, stating, “AMU’s flower shows are a cherished part of our institutional identity. They not only enhance the campus’s aesthetic appeal but also serve as a reminder of the university’s legacy in fostering beauty, discipline, and environmental consciousness. It is remarkable how this event has continued uninterrupted for so many decades.”

The show featured an impressive display of flowers under seven categories, showcasing 338 entries in Flowering Annuals, 174 in Cut Flowers (Annuals), 62 in Cut Flowers (Roses), 36 in Ornamental Flowers, 26 in Flower Arrangements, and 119 in Succulents, Cacti, Bonsai, and other plant species. Forty entries were received in Class A for university, institutional, and private gardens, reflecting a widespread participation across various sections of the AMU community.

The Vice Chancellor Lodge, Pro-Vice Chancellor Lodge, Registrar Lodge, Administrative Block, Kennedy Hall, Staff Club, and various AMU departments and institutions participated in the event, alongside private gardens, institutional gardens, and university gardens.

The presence of former senior professors, including Prof Wazahat Hussain, Prof Arif Inam, and the university officials, including Proctor, Prof. Mohd Wasim Ali; Member Incharge, Public Relations Office, Prof. Vibha Sharma; Member Incharge Property and Waqf, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad; as well as senior faculty members, including Prof Fazal Ur Rahman, Prof Khwaja Saifullah Zafar, Prof Badruzzaman Siddiqui and Prof Qudsia Tahseen added to the grandeur of the occasion.

Later, Prof Anwar Shahzad, the Member Incharge, Land and Gardens, informed that the Annual Flower Show will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony on February 28, 2025, at 3:30 PM, where the best floral displays and garden arrangements will be honoured by the chief guest, the District Magistrate of Aligarh, Shri Sanjeev Ranjan (IAS), and the guests of honour, the District Forest Officer, Aligarh, Shri Navin Prakash Shakya (IFS), and the Controller of Examinations, AMU, Dr. Mujib Ullah Zuberi.

The breathtaking showcase of cut-flowers, succulents, cacti, Bonsai, Bougainvillea and other ornamental flowers, and chrysanthemums, coleus and roses in October show reaffirm AMU’s reputation as a pioneer in horticultural traditions, ensuring that its rich heritage of flower shows continues to bloom year after year.
