Aligarh Muslim University, AMU, Vice Chancellor of the Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah and the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali met the Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal at his office on Friday .
The Vice Chancellor urged the Chief Minister to allot a building to the Aligarh Muslim University for official purposes of the University.
He informed the Chief Minister that AMU is interested in establishing a Museum in Sir Syed’s old haveli near Daryaganj area, which is the birthplace of the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University. Sir Syed was born in this Haveli in 1817.
It is pointed out that the Aligarh Muslim University is celebrating bicentenary birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great educationist and social reformer. He said this would be a great tribute to him by the Government of Delhi.
The delegation also requested the Delhi Chief Minister to release the Waqf property of the University, which is situated at a prime location in Block-B and D of Connaught Place. This Waqf property, he pointed out, was donated by Mr. Hamid Ali Khan under Waqf Registration, on September 28, 1945.
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal responded to the issues and instructed the Secretary of Delhi Waqf Board to look into the matter in a positive manner.
On inquiry from the Chief Minister, the Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor briefed him about the Minority Character of the University and its significance. The Chief Minister assured them of his full support on this issue.
