The whole campus was shut down following violent clashes between two rival groups of students that left 10 of them injured.
“The AMU has been closed sine die in the early hours of Saturday following a faction feud between two groups,” AMU spokesman Rahat Abrar said. He said that about six students belonging to two factions have been injured in incidents of firing and brick-batting between the rival groups.
The Vice Chancellor has also ordered the students to vacate the hostels immediately. He said that special trains and buses have been arranged to facilitate the students to reach their houses safe and secured.
Prof. Azis asked the University community to cooperate with the University administration to diffuse the situation and to maintain the peace and harmony in the campus.
“If you can vacate the campus forcibly in 48 hours. if you can arrange everything for students outside the campus. why can not you bring the peace in the same period through the same resources”, asks Kumar Deepak a senior student of the AMU adding that it was part of a larger conspiracy. Another student alleged that administration would not be able to do transfer and posting according to its wishes if the campus is opened.
Clash took place last evening when a group of students had gone to the university proctor’s office to file a complaint regarding a clash between two rival factions near Zakaria market adjoining the university campus.
Earlier the clashes started after a scuffle between some students who had gone to the University Controller of Examinations on Thursday to point out some irregularities.
However senior students of the AMU believe the it was simple a case law and order and it could have been resolved with the help of police.
“The closure of the campus would affect the career of the all students who were preparing for their examinations and had nothing to do with on going clashes”, said Ehtesham Khan an Alumnus of AMU. Another student Razi Ahmad said that it was conspiracy of the AMU administration to divert attention form real issue as it has been facing several probe of irregularities in the campus.
“At the time of all examination going on, this decision is most unfortunate decision ever by the AMU administration who in spite of getting all assurance from the AMU Students Union that they are free to take action against the involved students in such violent clash has decided to close the University down” said Abu Affan Farooquee, President AMU Students Union
.
He said that the career of thousands of students is at stake now.
“Violent clash happens in many Universities in India. However this has become trend in the Aligarh Muslim University that in spite of taking action against the individuals for their wrongdoing the AMU Administration in an attempt to seize power from all democratic bodies and oppress the students make the whole institution suffer through these sine die decisions” he said .
Former Rajya Sabha member and present member of the AMU court, Wasim Ahmed, has demanded the immediate removal of the present AMU administration, including the vice chancellor, blaming them for the present crisis.
He said that the incident reflect a total breakdown of law and order at the campus and the central government should no longer remain a mute spectator to what has been going on at the campus for last several years.
