Union Home Minister Amit Shah today presented the prestigious President’s Police Colour to the Goa Police at a ceremony held at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao, Goa. Mr. Shah also launched an AI-based voice assistant for the 1930 cyber-fraud helpline, supporting 12 languages to provide quick assistance to citizens and tourists.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shah praised the Goa Police for its service, professionalism, courage and discipline. He said the force has played an important role in maintaining internal security, protecting the coastline and safeguarding Goa’s tourism and economy. He also paid tribute to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. Mr. Shah highlighted the reduction in emergency response time through the 112 helpline, from 18 minutes to 8 minutes, and appreciated the Goa Police’s improved conviction rate.
The Home Minister urged the force to take the lead in combating narcotics and work towards eliminating the menace by 2029. Mr. Shah also highlighted India’s 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter and its growing role in disaster relief and capacity building globally.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, DGP Alok Kumar, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, senior police officers and other dignitaries were present at the event.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Amit Shah chaired 28th meeting of the Western Zonal Council in Panaji. The meeting focused on issues involving the Centre and the member States, with emphasis on matters that require coordination and joint action.
Goa Chief Minsiter Pramod Sawant, Gujarat Chief Minsiter Bhupendra Patel and Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Devendra Fadnavis were among those who attended the meeting.
