At the time when there is a call for adopting greener technologies in business models, Amazon has come up with an act to support the mission. Amazon India has recently installed 1000 kilo watts solar panels at its Hyderabad fulfilment centre. This solar installation in Hyderabad comes after the installation of 600 kilo watt solar set up at its Haryana based fulfilment centre. The officials from Amazon India described this as company’s effort towards the development of cleaner and greener energy.

The solar instalment projects are in line with the Vision 2020 of Amazon. As per the vision 2020, Amazon has decided to deploy solar installations at fifty of its fulfilment centres across the globe. The vision of creating green energy facility is an appreciable effort from Amazon that carries on the motto of green Earth and clean energy that is been pushed forward by global community these days.
More such solar installments to come in India
As per the plan, Amazon India would carry on its green energy expansion and would install solar panels at its Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai based fulfilment centres as well. The move is expected to induce a carbon dioxide reduction to the tunes of 9,000 tonnes.
Vice-President, Customer fulfilment at Amazon India Akhil Saxena said that Amazon India is putting in efforts and resources to cultivate a sustainable mechanism for its operations while contributing towards the environmental protection efforts.
Huge energy generation development potential
Eyeing the huge energy generation potential of solar setups Amazon India has set a target of 8,000 kilo watts of energy generation for itself by the end of this year. The area covered by the solar installation setups would be roughly around one million square feet. With such huge numbers at stake, Amazon India is designing and deploying its implementation strategy so, as to accommodate timely completion and minimum wastage of resources.
These efforts from Amazon India also make it one of the first in the Indian e-commerce market to take up such high scale greener technology adoptions. It is expected that soon its Indian rival Flipkart’s owner Walmart would unveil such green energy vision in the public domain.
The expansion would be on the cards
The planning and strategy of Amazon suggest that it would not restrict itself to the installation of green energy setups at its fulfilment centres only. It is expected that Amazon would push harder towards greener energy generation to fulfill the energy needs of its other setups as well.
In that case, its development centre in Bangalore would be the target where Amazon India would aim at covering most of the energy needs through renewable and environment-friendly technologies.
Good move
The vision and plan of development of green energy as stipulated by Amazon has got praises and accolades from the business fraternity, general public, and media. Since businesses are seen concerned merely with profit growth and revenue generation this step by Amazon India brings curtain on the non-environmental attitude of the business houses.
Amazon India would also have the option to sell excess energy generated through these solar energy installations to the government through the mechanism of net metering. As per net metering household and firms who are generating electricity from solar based set-up can sell excess energy to the electricity board/distribution centres and can earn good amount of money.
Well, if that happens then Amazon India would be gain both in terms of sustainable method adoption and value generation. Thus, all in all, the move to harness the power of renewable energy in their day to day operational and business activities would bring benefits from all spheres.
