The Akal Takhat, the highest Temporal Seat of the Sikh community in Punjab, has revoked the pardon given to Sirsa Dera head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh in a 2007 blasphemy case, citing unhappiness of the ‘Panth’ (Community). The Dera head was exonerated by the Akal Takhat through an edict on September 24th on the basis of his written apology. He was allegedly accused of impersonating as Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh that had hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
The decision has been taken in a specially called meeting of the Sikh clergy at the Akal Takhat headed by Jathedar Akal Takhat Gyani Gurbachan Singh annulling its earlier verdict. The Jathedar of Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib could not attend the meeting of the top clergy and his views were taken over phone before pronouncing the withdrawal of pardon.
