pollution delhi

AMN / NEW DELHI

The air quality in Delhi continues to remain in the severe zone on Monday. People complained of burning sensation in their eyes and heaviness in breathing, reflecting the severity of the pollution.

Meanwhile, all government and private schools in Gurugram will remain closed today in view of the alarming air pollution levels.

The matter of worsening pollution levels in the national capital has reached the Supreme Court corridors. The apex court will hear a PIL on the matter.

The plea, mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, sought direction to Centre and states on stubble burning, road dust and effective implementation of odd-even car rationing scheme.

The 3 member bench also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud agreed to hear the matter at the end of the board today.

Meanwhile Aam Aadmi Party Government on Monday filed a review petition before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), requesting it to reconsider its objection to exclusion of women and two-wheelers in the Odd-Even scheme, following which the Government had cancelled its roll-out.

The matter is likely to be heard by the Tribunal on Tuesday at around 1400 hours.

On Saturday, the Tribunal had allowed the Delhi Government to roll out the ‘controversial’ Odd-Even scheme on Delhi roads, from November 13 to 17, to ease the air pollution situation but refused to grant exemption to women and two-wheelers.

‘Seene mein jalan … kyon hai’; Rahul attacks Del Govt, Centre on pollution

New Delhi

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday took a swipe at the Delhi Government and the Centre for their inaction to tackle rising air pollution in the National Capital.

Taking to twitter, Rahul, quoting a famous couplet ‘seene mein jalan, Aankhon mein toofan sa kyun hai, is shehar mein har shaks pareshan sa kyun hai’ , asked the Delhi Government and the Centre as to why they were feigning ignorance despite being aware of the situation.

‘Kya Batayenge Saheb, sab jaankar anjaan kyon hain’ (will you tell us why you seem to be ignorant despite being aware of the situation),’Rahul tweeted.
