Veteran film and theater actor Reema Lagoo passed away in Mumbai early this morning following cardiac arrest. She was 59. She complained of chest pain last night and was rushed to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital where she breathed her last.
The senior actress started her career as a Marathi stage artist in 1970s. She continued her acting career in Marathi as well as Hindi films and became equally popular as television artist too. Over the course of her career, she played the mother’s role opposite some of the biggest stars in the industry like Salman Khan (Maine Pyar Kiya), Akshay Kumar (Gumrah), Sridevi (Jai Kishen), Madhuri Dixit (Hum Aapke Hain Kaun..!) and Shah Rukh Khan (Kal Ho Na Ho).
Her other popular films include Aashiqui, Qayamat se Qyamat Tak, Yeh Dillagi, Vaastav, Kuch Kuch hota hain. She was acclaimed for her acting in Rui Ka Bojh (1997).
In Marathi film industry too, she did some notable character roles. Her most appreciated roles were in renowned Marathi political movie Singhasan, Anumati, Mukta, Bindasta and most-recent Jaaundya na Balasaheb. She also made a name for herself in TV shows like Tu Tu Main Main and Shrimaan Shrimati. She was last seen in Naamkaran. She has won four Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress.
Born as Nayan Bhadbhade in 1958, Lagoo’s acting potential were first noticed while she was studying in a High School in Pune. Reema Lagoo is survived by one daughter Mrunmayee Laggo, also an actress.
