The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has said the requirement of Aadhaar for opening new bank accounts or applying for Tatkal passports will continue, even as the deadline for the linking it to existing bank accounts and PAN has been extended by the Supreme Court.

In a series of tweets late last evening, the Authority said as per the order of the Supreme Court, the requirement of Aadhaar for opening new bank accounts and applying for Tatkal passports under the relevant laws continues.

It, however, added that those who do not have Aadhaar, are required to apply for it and provide the Aadhaar application number while applying for availing the aforesaid services.
