On track with the government’s avowed aim of reducing the information gap prevailing in the country vis-à-vis the North East region, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is organising in the national capital a “North East Calling” event under its Destination North East series.

The purpose of the event, to be held on September 9 and 10 in the India Gate area, is to promote the art, culture, heritage, cuisine, handicraft, business and tourism of North East India, according to an official release. The event will showcase all activities and products of North-East and coincides with the 16th Anniversary of Ministry of DoNER.

Among the highlights of the event, official sources said, is a fashion show in which IAS officers will walk down the ramp in attires from various North Eastern communities and a live performance by multi-talented heartthrob and popular singer Zubeen Garg.

In the run-up to the event, a variety of contests with North East as the theme are being organized for he public with attractive prizes. These contests include Photography and Caption Contest, video contest, choreography contest for colleges on the theme “Connect NE”, quiz competition for schools and colleges, best North-Eastern attire in the crowd, home chef contest and so on. The event will include performances by bands of the North-East, dances of the North-East, handloom demo show, exhibitions of activities being undertaken in the region, stalls by various Central ministries showcasing the works being undertaken by them in the region, stalls by states, stalls selling products of NERAMAC and NEHHDC, variety of food stalls including delicacies of NE, etc.

There will be B2B summits on Food Processing, Tourism and Start-up opportunities in the North-East.
