Union Government has proposed to establish an additional 14 new All India Institute of Mediacal Science, AIIMS under various phases of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana in different parts of the country.

Image result for aiims indian awaazReplying to supplementaries on AIIMS and related healthcare system in India, Union Health Minister JP Nadda informed the Loka Sabha that government was working on enhancing the capacity of national capital’s medical institutes, which receive a large number of patients from across the country.

He said an additional 1,563 new beds will be added in the existing capacity of AIIMS at Delhi and 73 existing medical institutions are being upgraded by setting up of super specialty blocks, trauma centres in the country.

Under the national programme for prevention and control of cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and strokes, the health minister said Center to support the establishment of 20 state cancer institutes and 50 tertiary care cancer centres in different parts of the country.

He said AIIMS institutes in Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur and Raipur have been almost operational and a large number of patients these institutions receive not only from states but also from neighbouring regions.

Responding to a question on eradication of measles, Mr Nadda informed the House that the disease was never eradicated fully from the country and measles cases have continued to be reported from various parts of the country.
