Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered cases into the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Shimla and custodial death of one of the accused arrested by the police in connection with the case.
The central agency has taken over the investigation on the direction of Himachal Pradesh High Court.
CBI has registered two separate FIRs in the matter yesterday and constituted three member Special Investigation Team led by a SP rank officer. The Special Investigation Team has proceeded to the scene of the crime for further investigation.
So far, six accused have been arrested by the police. Out of which, one died under alleged mysterious circumstances in the police custody.
Earlier this month, a minor girl had gone to school but did not return home and the next day her dead body was found in the nearby forest area.
The incident led to widespread protest and demonstration by the opposition BJP and several other social organizations against the state congress government.
Meanwhile the state government as a goodwill gesture has upgraded the Middle school of the deceased girls’ village to the senior secondary school with immediate effect.
