The Centre has assured all possible help to flood hit Assam. Talking to media at Lakhimpur, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said. The minister who headed a Central team to take stock of the situation, said that he has got a preliminary report and on the basis of assessment, the Centre would provide help.
He appreciated the efforts of the Assam government being taken to help flood hit people. Mr. Rijiju said, NDRF teams are working effectively with district administrations. He also visited Dhemaji district to take stock of the situation. Meanwhile, DoNER minister Jitendra Singh called Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and expressed concern over the damage caused by the devastating floods.
Around 17 lakh 50 thousand people were submerged in current wave of floods in 26 districts of Assam. Overall 29 thousand people are staying at 123 relief camps being set up across the state. However, 600 people have left relief camps at Majuli district as the situation improved. Official sources said, five persons have died due to flood related incidents during last 24 hours. With this, the death toll has gone up to 49. On the other hand, forest officials have rescued 17 hog deers today at the Kaziranga national park.
