Sri Lankan Navy has apprehended 16 Indian fishermen when they were fishing near Sri Lankan waters. The fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai and Mannar for questioning.
According to reports Sri Lankan Navy continued their attack on Tamil Nadu fishermen apprehending 16 fishermen from Nagapattinam and Rameswaram last night. The Lankan Navy also detained their two fishing boats. Sri Lankan Navy had arrested ten fishermen from Rameswaram and detained their fishing boat on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka released 85 Tamil Nadu fishermen lodged in Lankan jail last week after diplomatic pressure by India. Tami Nadu Chief Minister Edapady K Palanisamy had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and secure the release of fishermen languishing in Lankan jail and their fishing boats.
