The election for the three Municipal Corporations in Delhi will be held on April 22 and the counting of votes will be held on April 25.
This was announced by state Election Commissioner SK Srivastava at press conference.
With the announcement, the Model of Code of Conduct has come into force.
The three Municipal Corporations all together has 272 seats, out of which North and South Delhi Municipal Corporation has 104 seats each while East Delhi Municipal Corporation has 64 seats.
Mr Srivastava said, “a notification in this regard will be issued on March 27. The last date of filing of nomination is April 3 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination is April 8.
Replying to a query, Mr Srivastava said, Electronic Voting Machines, EVMs will be used in the elections. He said, maximum expenses by each candidate in the elections is five lakh 75 thousand rupees.
There are 272 seats at stake, with NDMC and SDMC accounting for 104 seats each, while 64 seats fall under EDMC.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier expressed reservations about EVMs and sought the use of ballot papers in the civic body polls. He has directed Chief Secretary M M Kutty to write to the State Election Commission in this regard.
Earlier, Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken had also requested Mr Kejriwal to opt for ballot papers and shun EVMs in the corporation polls.
