Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted all soldiers, veterans and their families on Army Day. In a tweet message, Mr Modi said, people of the country salute the courage and invaluable service of the Indian Army.
He said, Indian Army always leads from the front, be it in protecting the sovereignty of the nation and helping citizens during natural disasters. He said, the nation remember with great pride all the sacrifices made by the Army. Prime Minister said, Army put their lives at risk so that 125 crore Indians live peacefully.
Peace across LoC a priority; won’t shy from befitting reply to ceasefire violations: Army
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat today said peace across Line of Control is a priority but will not shy away from giving befitting reply to ceasefire violations. Addressing a function in New Delhi on the occasion of Army Day, General Rawat also said confidence building measures have been undertaken with China at northern borders so tensions can be done away with. He saluted martyrs who sacrificed their lives and said nation is indebted to them and their families.
Speaking on the recent video uploaded by a BSF jawan, General Rawat said, proper channels are in place for jawans to put across grievances. He said, if the soldiers are not satisfied with action taken,they can contact him directly.
The Army Chief gave away gallantry awards on the occasion. He honoured the wife of Siachen braveheart Lance Naik Hanamanthappa with Gallantry ward.
