A BJP government was today installed in Arunachal Pradesh,. The development came after 33, out of 43 Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) MLAs, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, joined BJP.
With this, Pema Khandu government has the support of 47 MLAs including the two independents in the 60-member Assembly. He paraded the MLAs before Assembly Speaker Tenzing Norbu Thongdok who accepted their joining. Earlier, Mr. Khandu and others were temporarily suspended from PPA for anti-party activities.
Briefing media at State Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said that Arunachal Pradesh has not seen a stable government since a year and for the sake of development this merger was very important which was not possible staying with the PPA.
The Chief Minister refuted all charges and instead blamed the PPA of having weak organizational set-up which had created communication gap among the party workers.
In a tweet, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav welcomed Mr. Khandu in his party saying Arunachal Pradesh has become 10th BJP-ruled state and 14th with BJP alliances.
Earlier today, PPA President Kahfa Bengia expelled 4 more MLAs from the party.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a press conference after the merger at State Legislative Assembly said that Arunachal Pradesh has not seen a stable government since a year and for the sake of development the merger was very important which was not possible staying with the PPA.
The Chief Minister also refuted all charges leveled against him by PPA President Kahfa Bengia and instead blamed the PPA of having weak organizational set-up which had created communication gap among the party workers. With this Arunachal Pradesh became the second BJP ruled state in the north east.
