A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight carrying 42 passengers and five crew members which was en route to Islamabad from the northern city of Chitral crashed near Abbottabad on Wednesday.

Flight PK661 had departed from Chitral at 3.30 and has crashed, the civil aviation authority confirmed.

An earlier airline statement said the ATR-42 turboprop aircraft had lost contact.

According to the passengers list, 47 people were on board the aircraft, including five crew members. Former singer Junaid Jamshed, wife, as well as DC Chitral and his wife were also onboard.

A small PIA plane has crashed near Karpal village in Havelian in Pakistan. Paksitan Radio, the Islamabad bound passenger plane with over forty people on board including five crew members was coming from Chitral.

Rescue teams are rushing towards the accident site.  More details awaited ….
