Prime Minister Narendra Modi today stressed that need of empowerment of tribal community saying they must get their entitlements. Inaugurating National Tribal Carnival at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi today, Modi said, no one should have power to deprive the tribals of their land.
The Prime Minister said, India has a substantial tribal community population but it was under former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee that a separate Ministry for Tribal communities was formed. Mr Modi said, it is essential to preserve the diversity of the country.
He said, despite enormous difficulties, tribal communities look ahead as they were blessed with the ability to overcome them. Mr Modi said, the capital is delighted to welcome people from tribal communities across India, during this festive season.
He said, if there is someone who saved the forests, it is the tribal communities as saving forests is a part of their culture. Mr Modi said under the Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, priority is being given to tribal communities.
The National Tribal Carnival showcasing various facets of tribal culture is aimed at promoting a sense of inclusiveness amongst the tribals. The events during the carnival will be a mix of live music and dance performances, exhibitions, display of crafts, fashion show, panel discussions and book fair.
The idea of organizing the carnival is to expose tribal culture, tradition and the skill to the general public with a view to utilizing the potential for overall holistic development of the Scheduled Tribes.
