Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. He sought Centre’s intervention as Bihar battles with floods. Talking to media after the meeting, Mr Kumar said that desilting the river Ganga is the only solution to avoid floods.
He said Mr Modi assured to take immediate and positive action on his demands, including formulating a national silt management policy. The Chief Minister held Farakka barrage responsible for increasing siltage in the Ganga river basin.
He said he has urged the Prime Minister to send a team of experts to assess the situation in the state saying that Mr Modi has assured that experts will be sent. Mr Kumar expressed concern that the situation can only worsen if it is not dealt with effectively and the state will have to face severe consequences in the coming
years.
