Karnataka Development minister K J George has resigned after an allegation of harassment made by Mangaluru Dy SP M K Ganapathi, who committed suicide in Coorg recently. The announcement came after Principal Judicial Magistrate Court in Madikeri directed the police to file FIR against the Minister and two senior police officers.

The deceased DySP’s son Nehal Ganapati had alleged in his complaint filed in the court of Principal Judicial Magistrate at Madikeri that former Home Minister K.J. George and police officers Pronab Mohanty and A.M. Prasad used to harass his father and this led to his demise. The private complaint lodged by Nehal and his mother further stated the police had rejected a complaint lodged by them with the Advertise Here TIAKushalanagar police on July 10.

The police officer Ganapathi had ended his life by hanging himself at a private lodge in Madikeri on July 7. He had written a suicide note and also given a statement to the local media that minister and two IPS officers will be responsible if something happens to him.

The Opposition had staged day and night dharna on the floor of legislative Assembly and Council seeking resignation of the minister. State wide agitations were also organized on this issue. The BJP delegation had also met the governor today seeking his intervention on this issue. The suicide and resignation of police officers owing to harassment has turned out to be a big issue in the state. State Minister George speaking to media persons after his resignation has said that he will take legal recourse and expressed confidence that he will come clean of the allegation.
