The Madras High Court has ordered CBI inquiry into the three trucks containing Rs 570 crore impounded by Election officials in the midnight on May 13 near Tirupur, ahead of the assembly polls.
A static surveillance team formed by the state Election Department had detained the trucks.
The State Bank of India later claimed ownership of the money saying the cash were being transferred from Coimbatore to Vishakapattinam with the RBI permission as part of its routine operations.
However, the DMK Rajya Sabha MP TKS Elangovan contended in the court that there were serious lapses in the transfer of money including not carrying original authorization document in support of the transfer, absence of senior officials in the convoy, accompanying security guards not in uniform and not informing the local police about the transfer.
Hearing the petition, Justice R.Subbiah directed the CBI to inquire into the case.
