“Three more CRPF men succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll to eight,” said CRPF spokesman Bhavesh Choudhury.

Around 22 CRPF men were injured in the attack, he said.

The terrorists ambushed six vehicle CRPF convoy near Namblabal Pampore late afternoon. Two terrorists were killed in the shootout. Over two dozen more CRPF personnel were also injured.

CRPF has recovered 2 AK 47 rifles, 11 rifle magazines, six hand grenades, and other ammunition from the militants who were gunned down.

Deputy PRO CRPF Bhavesh Chowdhary told media that five CRPF personnel including sub inspector were killed on spot in the attack.

Three critically injured CRPF personnel succumbed later in the hospital. Two militants were also killed in the shootout. About 25 personnel were injured in the attack who have been admitted for advanced treatment in Army hospital.

LeT  claims responsibility

Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has claimed the responsibility of Pampore attack saying that at least 12 Indian troopers were killed while more than 20 forces personnel were injured.

LeT spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi in a statement to news agency CNS said that two LeT militants belonging to a Fidayeen squad attacked the CRPF bus on highway.
