Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today said that Government should look for options other than farming to alleviate the situation of agricultural crisis in the country.
Addressing a seminar on ”Liberating the Farmers from Debt Trap”, Gadkari said the need of the hour is to explore avenues other than farming using technological innovations in the areas including fisheries and honey collection.
Mr Gadkari said, such avenues would help not only in providing a dignified life to farmers, but also would aid in employment generation for their children.
The minister said government is determined to bring in the technology for 100 per cent ethanol operated vehicles in the country, which can effectively lessen the problem of global warming. Mr Gadkari also said work is going on in full swing to convert 111 rivers into waterways, which will open a cheaper channel of transport as compared to roadways and railways.
A website tilled ‘shubharambh aslibharat.com’ was also launched on the occasion for the welfare of farmers.
