A Buddhist monk has been hacked to death by unidentified miscreants inside the monastery, a week after a Muslim Sufi preacher was murdered in a similar attack in Bangladesh.

75 year old Mawng Shoi Wuu, chief of the monastery located in Chittagong Hill Tracts district of Bandarban’s Naikhyongchari Upazila, was found dead this morning. No group has claimed responsibility until now.

There have been systematic assaults in Bangladesh in recent weeks especially targeting minorities, secular bloggers, intellectuals and foreigners. More than 20 people have been killed by suspected Islamists in the last three years. The so-called Islamic State (IS) group and a Bangladeshi militant group affiliated to al-Qaeda have said they carried out some of the killings.
