Retired IPS officer DG Vanzara returned home to Gandhinagar for the first time since 2007, after he was booked in the Ishrat Jahan and Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter cases.
The return to his home state was facilitated by the modification of his bail, by a special CBI court, on April 2.
A large gathering was present at the Ahmedabad airport this morning to receive him.
Vanzara was arrested in 2007, in connection with the alleged fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati, but was given bail in 2014.
The bail in the Ishrat Jahan case was granted only in February this year.
One of the conditions in Vanzara’s bail order was that he will not leave Mumbai, but on April 2, a special CBI court allowed him to return home to Gujarat.
