Assam government has prohibited the possession of alcohol and banned the sale of liquor and other substances at hotels and shops within polling areas for 48 hours from 2nd to 4th of April on account of first phase of assembly elections. This phase will go to polls on the 4th of April in 65 constituencies.
An official release said, in the second phase of polls in 61 constituencies, the prohibition will be in force from 9th to 11th April.
Meanwhile, in a bid to woo voters, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is addressing election rallies in Digboi, Moran, and Tezpur today. On the other hand, BJP party president Amit Shah is also holding meetings at Ratabari, Hailakandi, Dholai and Borkhola. Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari are also scheduled to hold election rallies today.
