Budget Session of parliament begins. Rail Budget on February 25; General Budget on February 29

The Controversial Sedition Law is likely to reviewed as Government today said that it was reviewing a section of the Sedition Law. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said the Law Ministry has requested the Law Commission of India to study the usage of Section 124 A of the India Penal Code under which sedition comes.

He said the Commission has identified certain focus areas and formed a subgroup to deliberate on the matter.

The Minister was asked whether the government has taken note of allegations of arbitrary use of sedition law in the country and propose to bring reforms in the colonial law. Recently, Delhi Police had arrested some JNU students under this section for allegedly raising anti- India slogans which created controversy.
