Militants attack CRPF convoy in PamporeThe death toll in the ongoing encounter at Pampore in Jammu & Kashmir has gone upto five with an injured army soldier succumbing to injuries.  

Three unidentified militants launched the attack on CRPF convoy near Govt complex of J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) on Srinagar Jammu National Highway in Pampore town of Pulwama district yesterday. The attackers later hid inside Institute complex after attacking the security personnel with grenades and assault rifles.

The deceased include two CRPF personnel, one Army Captain and one civilian gardener. Thirteen CRPF personnel including an Assistant Commandant and grievously wounded CRPF man were admitted and undergoing treatment at Army’s Base Hospital in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, the joint operation by Army, CRPF and J&K Police is underway to flush out militants holed up in the EDI Complex.

Yesterday, all the people including employees and students trapped inside the EDI campus were safely evacuated by security forces.Our correspondent reports that militants did not take anyone hostages after entering the Institute Complex.

A top Police official said that intermittent firing between probably three unidentified holed-up militants and the security forces was going . The situation turned tense after clashes erupted again between security forces and the youth in various areas of Pampore town today.

Stone pelting was reported from various areas in the town last evening as well. The Srinagar Jammu National highway passing through Pampore town has been closed and the traffic diverted to other routes.
