Government today approved central assistance of over Rs 4,087 crore to seven states affected by drought. A high level committee chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh approved the assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund after examining the proposals based on the report of the Central Team which visited the affected states.

The committee approved over Rs 1177 crore for Rajasthan, 17,73 crore for Tamil Nadu, Rs 280 crore for Andhra Pradesh, 337 crore for Jharkhand, 332 crore for Assam, 170 crore for Himachal Pradesh and Rs 16 crore for Nagaland. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and senior officers of the Ministries of Home, Finance and Agriculture attended the meeting.
