The Congress National Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has called upon the party leaders to stop infighting in the party and fight the forthcoming Assembly Elections Unitedly. Addressing the Party Executive Meeting at Thiruvananthapuram today, he said that he expects the Congress Party would retain power in Kerala again. He further said that the CPI (M) cannot defeat the Congress in the State.
He also criticized the BJP and said that the policies and programmes of the Union Government are consigned to merely declarations and not actions. At the meeting, the state leaders asked Mr. Gandhi not to have any truck with the CPI(M) in West Bengal. CPI(M) leaders in West Bengal have been pushing for a tie-up with Congress in a bid to to oust the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC while the Pradesh Congress leaders are divided over the issue.
CPI today hit back at Rahul Gandhi over his remark that Left ideology has become obsolete. CPI national secretary D Raja said Rahul Gandhi is following on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by turning to rhetoric. Addressing Congress workers at the conclusion of Jana Raksha Yatra in Kerala yesterday, Gandhi had targeted Left parties saying the ideology they believe in is obsolete and belongs to the previous century. He also said that Kerala cannot build its future from the vision of last century.
BJP, too hit back at Rahul Gandhi for his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying while the Congress Vice President leader does photo-ops, the Prime Minister believes in doing work. The party also questioned Mr. Gandhi over his double-speak in criticising the Left parties in Kerala and seeking to align with them in West Bengal.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi BJP Secretary Siddharth Nath Singh criticised Mr. Ganhdi for not speaking out against corruption during his visit to Kerala and asked him why he is selective over the issue. Sharpening his attack on NDA government, Rahul Gandhi today accused the Prime Minister of being superficial.
