Visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Syria Walid Al Moualem today met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi. The two leaders held discussions concerning the two countries. Walid Al Moualem arrived in New Delhi on a four day visit yesterday. Walid Al Moualem will also meet the Indian leadership during his stay.
He is being accompanied by a high level delegation. The visit assumes significance in view of fresh initiatives taken by the United Nations to bring peace in war-torn Syria. In Syria, more than three lakh people reported to have been killed in the past four years and seven million have fled to other countries. European nations have also witnessed a huge influx of Syrian refugees.
