The family members of Nirbhaya along with the residents of Delhi assembled at Jantar mantar protesting against the release of the convict juvenile.

The juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya’s gangrape and murder case is to be released on Sunday spending three years in a reform home.

Later they also protested outside the reform Home from where they were removed for security reasons. Delhi police has also denied detention of Nirbhaya’s parents during the protest.

Sources said, the juvenile convict in the December 16 gang rape case has been moved out of the reform home and sent to an undisclosed location amid concerns that there was threat to his life.

On Friday, Delhi High court had refused to stay the release of juvenile convict in the December 16th Delhi gangrape and murder case saying he cannot be stopped from walking free under the existing provisions of law.

The Court said BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea seeking stay on the release of juvenile convict cannot be allowed as the statutory and existing law was coming in its way.

On Friday, The Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal had urged President Pranab Mukherjee and Chief Justice of India to stop release of juvenile .

In a letter to them, she said the convict’s mental state needs to be assessed. She added that the juvenile should not be freed in larger public interest.
