Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani today said several premier educational institutions in the country have set global standards in education and research, these institutions were not getting their due place in the global rankings.
Replying to questions in the Lok Sabha, Mrs Irani said these institutes have been producing a very high quality human resource which was instrumental in building not only country’s economy but also many foreign economies. The minister however, lamented that the Indian institutions are not getting their due place in the global rankings.
She informed the House several initiatives have been launched by the government for improving learning process. Mrs Irani said Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) under which academicians from foreign university come to teach in India.
She also said government has created National Digital Library and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and improving curricula for under-graduate course to improve the standards of education and bring them at par with the international standards.
