Union Health Minister JP Nadda has said that the government is working towards creating an organ transplant facility in every medical college of the country. Launching the Nationwide Registry for Organ and Tissue Donation in New Delhi Friday, Mr Nadda said that this will help bridge the gap between demand and availability of human organs for transplantation. He said, at present all transplant facilities are available in metropolitan cities of which 95 per cent is in private sector.

The Minister stressed the need to increase the facilities in other parts of the country as well. He said, the Health Ministry has decided to impart training in organ and tissue transplantation at all government hospitals. Mr Nadda also suggested that organ and tissue donation should be included in the syllabus of undergraduates (MBBS), postgraduates (MS and MD) and nursing degrees.
