Over 53% voter turnout reported in the 3rd round of the 5 phase polling in Bihar’s 6 districts on 50 assembly seats concluded on Wednesday amidst tight security.
The districts are: Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Nalanda, Bhojpur and Buxar. An estimated 53.3 per cent votes were cast today.
Repolling was also held at booth no. 131 of Banka assembly constituency and at booth no. 188 of Chakai constituency. Polling on these booths was held on October 12th during the first phase of polling.
The voting began at 7 am and ended at 5 pm except for 10 naxal affected constituencies where proceedings were wound up an hour in advance.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said, the polling was peaceful barring some minor incidents. Mr Sinha said, an overwhelming response was seen among the female voters who outnumbered male voters.
Giving the break up of district wise poll percentage, Mr Sinha said, Patna registered 51. 82 percent, Saran 52.50 , Vaishali 54.82, Nalanda 54.11, Bhojpur 53.30 and Buxar 56.58 percent. The Deputy Election Commissioner said voters boycotted polls in 4 polling stations in different areas on developmental issues.
Today’s polling was significant in many aspects as female voters outnumbered male voters like previous two phase of polls. In naxal affected constituencies voters casted their votes fearlessly. Over fifty percent voting was recorded in 10 naxal affected constituencies. Maximum 58 percent voting was registered in Masaurhi assembly constituency of Patna district.
Repolling at booth number 188 of Chakai and booth number 131 of Banka assembly seats witnessed record 76 and 71 percent voting respectively. After today’s poll, electoral fortune of 808 candidates including 71 women have been sealed in EVMs.
