Political parties have criticised Union Minister V K Singh for his remarks that the government cannot be held responsible if somebody throw stones at a dog. Mr. Singh reportedly stated this while trying to shield the Haryana government from blame in the Faridabad Dalit burning incident. He however, clarified that his statement was not intended to draw an analogy.

Terming Mr. Singh’s remarks as shocking and condemnable, Congress demanded his resignation from the government. Party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, there should be a criminal case against V K Singh.

Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi came down heavely on  VK Singh and asked prime minister to take action against him.

Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that V K Singh’s statement is shameful and prosecutable under Scheduled Castes Prevention of Atrocities Act. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should remove him from his Council of Ministers.

Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar tweeted that he is aghast at the senseless comment made by the Union Minister on tragic Dalit killings in Haryana.

On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, V K Singh has already clarified and one should not blow the whole thing out of proportion.

Commenting on the killing of two Dalit children, V. K. Singh on Thursday said the government has nothing to with the issue and that it was a feud between two families.

“If someone throws stones at a dog, the government is not responsible… It was a feud between two families, the matter in under inquiry,” Singh told the media.

Two children were burnt alive while their mother sustained burns and is in a critical condition when their house was set on fire in Haryana’s Faridabad district on Tuesday.

Surjewala said “Rijiju should also be sacked for the comments he has made on the people of north India.”

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said that people of north India enjoy breaking the rules.

“I was witness to a statement made by one of Delhi’s former Lt. Governors. He had stated that people of north India enjoy breaking the rules and by evening he was forced to apologise. But I believe what he said was right,” Rijiju had said.
