Curfew has been imposed in many district of Gujarat including Mehsana and Visnagar town of North Gujarat and some parts of Surat city in south Gujarat following violent incidents.
Agitated Mobs set ablaze several police posts and public transport buses in Ahmedabad last night. Residence of several ministers and BJP MLAs have also been attacked in different parts of the state. Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has appealed the people to maintain peace and harmony in the state. She appealed the people not to disrupt law and order.
Trouble started after police briefly detained the leader of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti Hardik Patel and lathicharged his supporters at the rally venue in Ahmedabad late yesterday evening.
He was detained after beginning an indefinite hunger strike demanding the assurance to provide reservation to Patidar by the Chief Minister. Though, Patidar leader Hardik Patel was released after couple of hours, but violence spread in many parts of the state including Ahmedabad.
Paramilitary forces including State Reserve Police Force, Rapid Action Force and Border Security Force have been deployed in Ahmedabad and Mehsana to maintain law and order. Union Home Ministry is in constant touch with Gujarat government and it has sent additional forces as requested by the state government.
Leader of Patidar community Hardik Patel has also appealed to the people to maintain peace and not to indulge in any violence. State Government has ordered to close schools in entire state as a precautionary measure today.
