Air Force helicopters and Army have been pressed in to the service after flood like situation in Banaskantha and Kutch district in Gujarat. Incessant rains caused by a deep depression lashed many parts of the state causing death of 25 persons during the last 48 hours. Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Patan and Kutch district in North Gujarat are the worst affected by heavy rain.
Many villages of Sui and Vav blocks of Banaskantha have been disconnected due to flood waters. Two Air Force helicopters and Army have been sent to Banaskantha along with four additional team of NDRF- National Disaster Response Force. CRPF, BSF and State Reserve Police have already been deployed in the affected areas for relief and rescue works. Rail and road traffic were badly hit due to heavy water logging in Kutch and Banaskantha.
Ahmedabad district reported maximum casualties as six persons died since yesterday, while Banaskantha district registered four deaths. Three rain related deaths were reported each from Patan, Rajkot and Kutch districts. Chief Minister Anandiben Patel reviewed the rescue and relief works in a high level meeting at Gandhinagar last evening. Heads of various Government departments have been asked to monitor the situation for speedy restoration of Electricity, water supply and health services.
