All Political parties have strongly condemned the terror attack at Dinanagar Police station in Punjab’s border district of Gurdaspur. The Congress said there seemes to be an intelligence failure. Talking to media outside parliament, senior party leader Anand Sharma alleged that anti-India forces are involved in the attack. Sharma said there have been a series of ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir and it appears that Pakistan was constantly supporting the terrorist activities against India. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clearly tell his Pakistani counterpart that cross-border terrorism and talks cannot take go together. He also urged the Central government to deal firmly with the attack in Punjab.

Condemning the attack, Samajwadi party leader Ramgopal Yadav said, the Prime Minister must send out a stern message to Islamabad that terror against India will not be tolerated.

On a query, Mr Yadav said, today’s attack should not be linked with attempts of revival of insurgency in Punjab.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury asked the government to give all the facts about the attack. BSP chief Ms Mayawati said, the government should tighten its vigilance alongside the border in view of the attack.

Meanwhile, ruling Akali Dal leader Naresh Gujral said, the Punjab government and the forces are firmly dealing with the terror attack. Mr Gujral said that every terror attempt by Pakistan will be crushed and the state will not leave any stone unturned to deal with teh situation.

Gujral said, there is no failure on the part of the state administration to deal with insurgents. He said, Pakistan’s hand in today’s attack and attempts to revive insurgency in the state cannot be ruled out.

The terror attack in Punjab also raised in the Lok Sabha as the government said that the home ministry will make a statement in the matter once the gunbattle is over. When the house reassembled after a short adjournment at noon, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said: “After the encounter is over the home ministry will make a statement. I would request the speaker to alow the home minister. We want to take the house into confidence.”

Naidu made the statement amid a huge ruckus by the opposition led by the Congress over the Lalit Modi and the Vyapam issues.

However, many members, specially of the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal, demanded that the Gurdaspur terror attack should be discussed as it was a question of the country’s national security.

“This a matter of the country’s security,” Prem Singh Chandumajra of the SAD said raising the issue during zero hour.

SS Ahluwalia of the BJP said: “I want the government to give a statement and there should be a discussion in the house and a resolution should be passed.” “This is a matter of national security. There should not be any politics over this,” he added.
