Food Safety Standards Authority of India, FSSAI, has said that Nestle India has acted in an untrustworthy manner by producing Maggi noodles with lead content more than permissible limits. The food regulator’s counsel argued before the Bombay High Court that even though Nestle had the capacity to produce safe noodles but it had not done so.
The lawyer clarified that the Indian government had not banned Maggi but asked the company to stop production and sale of the product as it contained lead above permissible levels.
A division bench is hearing a petition filed by Nestle India against FSSAI’s order banning nine variants of Maggi and Maharashtra government’s order prohibiting their sale.
